Tourtour, between sky and Provence

Tourtour, a Haut-Var commune listed among Les Plus Beaux Villages de France, overlooks the Argens valley from nearly 650 metres. Nicknamed the 'village in the sky', it spreads paved alleys, fountains, medieval castles, century-old plane trees and a panorama embracing the Maures, Sainte-Baume and, on clear days, Ventoux. The weekly summer brocante takes place on Place Annabelle et Bernard Buffet, dedicated to the famous painter who lived here.

A weekly summer brocante

The Tourtour brocante runs weekly in summer, roughly June to September. This cadence, rare for a village under 500 inhabitants, reflects the exceptional tourist draw. The Festival Committee, local associations or private operators share organisation.

What you find

The village attracts quality exhibitors : Dracénie and Haut-Var professional dealers, country antique dealers, specialist hunters. Stock includes antique Provençal furniture, Moustiers and Salernes tableware, glassware, ceramics, embroidered linen, paintings, postcards, jewellery, curiosities, Provençal décor. Private sellers add a more classic jumble offer.

Tourtour, premium destination

Visiting Tourtour means also visiting one of France's most beautiful villages. Main square shaded by huge elms and plane trees, Saint-Denis church, Raphélis de Broves castle, oil mill, Valcros grotto, surrounding olive groves : heritage abounds. The brocante adds to this setting.

Tips

Early morning in high season for parking (fills fast). Allow several hours. Lunch at village restaurants with panoramic terraces. Combine with an estate or truffle farm in season.
