Annual flea market in October in Montréal, medieval bastide of Cabardès
The Marché aux Puces de Montréal is an annual event held every October in this medieval bastide of Cabardès, in Aude. This autumn market invites professional exhibitors and individuals to invade the alleys and the square of this historic city to offer flea market items, antiques, and collectibles. The medieval atmosphere of Montréal, with its ramparts and Gothic church, offers a remarkable setting for strolling and treasure hunting during an autumn weekend in the Aude.
Montréal is one of the oldest bastides in Languedoc, founded in the 13th century in the country of Cabardès. Perched on a rocky spur overlooking the Aude plain, the city retains its ramparts, medieval alleys, and its imposing collegiate church, a listed Historic Monument. This exceptional heritage gives the Marché aux Puces a setting that few similar events can boast of equaling.
The commune belongs to the network of Most Beautiful Villages of France, a label that testifies to the quality of its architectural and landscape heritage. Autumn, with its warm colors and golden light, is the ideal season to visit this gem of Cabardès.
The Marché aux Puces de Montréal draws its originality from the meeting between a flea market and second-hand goods on the one hand, and the exceptional architectural setting of a medieval bastide on the other. Stalls are set up in the central square and in the cobbled alleys, creating a unique atmosphere where old objects and centuries-old stones echo each other.
Exhibitors offer a variety of items characteristic of flea markets in the South:
Organized in October, the Montréal flea market benefits from the beautiful Languedoc autumn days to attract a large audience. The light of this season, particularly beautiful in the Midi, enhances the ochre and gold stones of the bastide, creating an incomparable photographic atmosphere.
Visitors often combine their visit to the market with an exploration of the village—the collegiate church, the episcopal castle, the ramparts—and a gastronomic stop in one of the restaurants or tasting cellars in the commune. The Cabardès vineyard, a recognized AOC, is within reach for a visit, with its wines that harmoniously blend Atlantic and Mediterranean grape varieties.
The Marché aux Puces de Montréal is more than just a commercial event: it contributes to the animation and enhancement of a remarkable heritage village. The organizing association strives to maintain a quality level of exhibitors compatible with the exceptional setting of the place, making this event a popular meeting point for lovers of quality flea markets in the Aude and neighboring departments.
