The flea market of July 14th at the foot of the Dames de Meuse
The village of Laifour, nestled in the meander of the Meuse at the foot of the famous Dames de Meuse, hosts its annual flea market every July 14th. The national holiday takes on a special dimension here, in this village in the deep valley where the river carves majestic curves between high wooded cliffs.
The Dames de Meuse are one of the most spectacular natural sites in the Ardennes. These rocky ridges, culminating at over 390 meters, offer a breathtaking panorama of the enclosed meander of the Meuse. According to legend, they are the petrified forms of four unfaithful ladies, punished for betraying their husbands who had gone on the Crusades. This mythical setting gives the Laifour flea market a unique atmosphere, between wild nature and popular festivity.
The Laifour flea market brings together local exhibitors and visitors from neighboring towns—Monthermé, Bogny-sur-Meuse, Revin—and from further afield each year. You can find the classics of Ardennes flea markets:
Laifour belongs to this remarkable geographical area of the Meuse meanders, classified among the most beautiful landscapes in France. The river, by slowly carving this Ardennes plateau, has sculpted landscapes of great beauty: deep gorges, limestone cliffs, dense forests. The July 14th flea market is the ideal opportunity for visitors to discover or rediscover this territory by combining treasure hunting and hiking on the trails leading to the viewpoints of the Dames de Meuse.
Organized by the village associations, the Laifour flea market is a human-scale event that brings together the inhabitants of the village and the surrounding communities of the Ardennes Regional Natural Park. Friendliness, sharing, and authenticity characterize this summer gathering, which perpetuates the tradition of the village flea market in the Ardennes Meuse valley.
