The spring flea market of southeastern Somme
The Verpillières Flea Market takes place every spring in this small village in southeastern Somme, near Roye and the Oise department. A human-scale event run by local volunteers, it gathers private individuals and bargain hunters for a friendly rural display: tableware, clothes, books, toys, old tools, trinkets. A fine opportunity to discover a preserved Picardy village.
Verpillières is a small village of about 400 inhabitants in southeastern Somme, at the edges of the Santerre and Oise. Each spring, the town organizes its annual flea market, an expected event for local bargain hunters.
Exhibitors — mainly village and neighbouring residents — offer a typical display: tableware, family clothes, toys, books, comics, vinyls, old tools, small furniture, lamps, trinkets, old papers.
Verpillières lies at the southeastern edge of the Somme department. Its brick houses, Saint-Martin church and quiet rural bourg atmosphere compose an authentic setting.
Small rural flea markets have a particular charm: artisanal organization, exhibitors know each other, prices remain accessible. It's in such events that one might dig up a Norman wardrobe at a bargain price.
Arrive early (7-9am). Park in village streets. Bring cash and patience. Explore the surroundings.
