Annual Easter flea market on the market square in Chevagnes
Every Easter Sunday, the market square of Chevagnes hosts a traditional flea market that marks the beginning of the flea market season in the north of the Allier. This peaceful village in the bocage bourbonnais, located between Moulins and Bourbon-l'Archambault, offers an authentic setting for this event appreciated by lovers of antique objects.
The Brocante de Chevagnes embodies the spirit of French country flea markets. On the market square and in the adjacent streets, stalls display antique furniture, crockery, old tools, books, trinkets, and everyday objects from yesteryear. The atmosphere is relaxed, conducive to friendly exchanges and negotiations between sellers and buyers.
Chevagnes is located in the heart of the bocage bourbonnais, a landscape of hedged farmland and hedgerows that characterizes the north of the Allier department. This rural area, rich in preserved vernacular heritage — Bourbonnais farms, castles, Romanesque churches — is a prime hunting ground where old objects tell the story of an agricultural land and a rural way of life.
Scheduled for Easter, the Brocante de Chevagnes unofficially opens the spring flea market season in the north of the Allier. From 6:30 AM to 5:30 PM, the day offers many hours of discovery. The early opening rewards the most determined bargain hunters, who take advantage of the calm of dawn to sift through the first stalls set up.
