The spring flea market of a small French Vexin village
In the heart of the French Vexin, on the northern edge of the Yvelines with Val-d'Oise, the village of Brueil-en-Vexin holds its traditional flea market every spring around the church square. With around a hundred exhibitors and a preserved village atmosphere, this event by the Committee of Celebrations has become a much-loved gathering for bargain hunters from the Vexin and Mantois, in a picture-postcard rural setting.
Every year in late spring, Brueil-en-Vexin opens its streets to exhibitors and bargain hunters for a flea market unlike any other: that of a French Vexin village, where time seems to stand still. Stalls are set up around the church square and in the adjacent alleys, forming a small labyrinth where visitors love to wander. Around a hundred exhibitors offer the classic fare of a rural flea market: antique furniture, crockery, trinkets, clothes, books, toys and curiosities of all kinds.
The event is organised by the Committee of Celebrations of Brueil-en-Vexin in partnership with the town hall. The committee, very active in this village of just over 700 inhabitants, also organises the other festive gatherings of the commune throughout the year. The spring flea market is one of its biggest events, mobilising dozens of volunteers.
Brueil-en-Vexin is part of the Regional Natural Park of the French Vexin, an emblematic territory stretching across eastern Val-d'Oise and northern Yvelines. This particular geography has preserved an exceptional rural landscape: cereal plateaus, woods, deep valleys, villages with limestone houses and medieval churches.
The Brueil-en-Vexin flea market is one of those events that visitors attend as much for the bargain hunting as for the pleasure of the stroll. Seasoned bargain hunters know they can find interesting pieces, often at very reasonable prices.
To extend your visit, the surroundings offer many possibilities: the Château of La Roche-Guyon, the gardens of Giverny in Eure, the listed villages of Villarceaux or Wy-dit-Joli-Village, and the hiking trails of the Vexin Regional Park.
