Grand flea market for Ascension in Obterre, 200 exhibitors in the heart of the Brenne Regional Natural Park
The Brocante de l'Ascension d'Obterre is a major event in the calendar for treasure hunters in the Indre region. Every Ascension Thursday, this small village nestled in the Aigronne valley hosts nearly 200 exhibitors for a day of flea market and car boot sale, accompanied by a traditional meal at the community hall offering the famous calf's head.
On Ascension Thursday, the village of Obterre transforms into a vast flea market that attracts treasure hunters from all over the department and beyond. Nearly 200 exhibitors, professionals and individuals, take over the streets and squares of the town to offer antique furniture, trinkets, tableware, garden tools, books, toys, vintage clothing and curiosities of all kinds. The flea market is open all day and fast food is available on site.
Obterre is a village of about 250 inhabitants located in the northeastern reaches of the Indre department, at the gates of Touraine. Nestled at the bottom of the Aigronne valley, topped by its Saint-Laurent church, the village retains the charm of a preserved rural town. The commune is part of the Brenne Regional Natural Park, a territory of a thousand ponds and remarkable biodiversity. Nearby, the Haute-Touche Zoological Park is a major attraction.
Tradition dictates that lunch is served in the community hall with the calf's head as the main course, a specialty that alone attracts many diners. The Obterre flea market is distinguished by its warm and village-like atmosphere, far from the hustle and bustle of big cities. Admission is free.
The Ascension flea market in Obterre returns on May 14, 2026, with approximately 200 exhibitors.
