About Saint-Riquier 8 May Brocante

The 8 May annual brocante takes over Saint-Riquier on Friday 8 May 2026. With 200 exhibitors and fast food on site, this event is a must on the Picard calendar, at the foot of the listed Gothic abbey. In this medieval Ponthieu town, bargain hunters combine the pleasure of browsing and the discovery of one of France's Most Beautiful Villages. An exceptional 8 May.

A brocante at the foot of a Gothic jewel

Saint-Riquier, listed among France's Most Beautiful Villages, is no ordinary town. In the heart of the Ponthieu, it houses one of Picardy's most beautiful Gothic abbeys, legacy of the royal abbey founded in the 7th century by Saint Riquier. It is in this exceptional historic setting that the village's annual brocante takes place each 8 May — a well-anchored tradition gathering around 200 exhibitors in the medieval core.

200 exhibitors across the village streets

Exhibitors — private sellers, dealers and a few associations — take over the streets and squares around the abbey. The event's size (200 stalls) places it among the major 8 May rendezvous of the Somme, on par with the big réderies of Salouël or Démuin. Browsers find a balanced mix: antique furniture, tableware, paintings, postcards and old papers, vintage clothing, toys, old books, militaria (Somme and Ponthieu were deeply marked by both world wars), costume jewellery, trinkets, bric-à-brac.

A brocante in an exceptional heritage setting

What sets this brocante apart is its heritage surroundings. At every step, hunters brush past Saint-Riquier abbey, a flamboyant Gothic jewel, the place du 11 Novembre, the old mill, the remains of the former halles. The carefully restored village keeps its cobbled lanes, half-timbered houses and mansions. Strolling between stalls becomes a walk through Picard history.

Saint-Riquier, France's Most Beautiful Village

Founded in the 7th century around the Benedictine abbey, Saint-Riquier was for centuries a major spiritual and cultural centre. The current abbey, built in the 15th and 16th centuries, is a flamboyant Gothic masterpiece, with its richly sculpted façade, choir stalls, historic organ and famous treasure. The Departmental Cultural Centre, housed in the former abbey residences, regularly hosts concerts and exhibitions. Saint-Riquier is also known for its abbey garden and rose garden.

Refreshments and warmth

The brocante offers fast food suited to large crowds: sandwiches, chips, crêpes, candy floss, cold and hot drinks. Cafés and restaurants on the square also run at full tilt, some with special menus. The atmosphere is typical of big Picard brocantes: lively, good-natured, paced by negotiations, reunions and ambient music.

An 8 May to experience fully

For hunters and visitors alike, the Saint-Riquier brocante offers a full day. Morning for browsing, lunch on site, afternoon to visit the abbey (mostly free access), gardens and village, a stop at the Cultural Centre. The 8 May holiday, often spring weather, the Ponthieu at its best. Hard to imagine a better day for lovers of bargain hunting and Picard heritage.
