Annual flea market in spring and autumn in this rural commune in the Aube
The Brocante d'Aix-Villemaur-Pâlis is held twice a year in this rural commune in the Aube (10160), once in April and once in November. This double occurrence allows bargain hunters in the region to find a renewed offering throughout the seasons. Private and professional exhibitors offer furniture, tableware, trinkets, and collectible items in an authentic village setting. Free entry for visitors.
Aix-Villemaur-Pâlis (Aube, 10160) is a rural commune located in the Pays d'Othe, a forest and agricultural area that is one of the most preserved parts of the Aube department. The peculiarity of its flea market is that it is held twice a year: first in April, in the heart of spring, and a second time in November, before the onset of winter. This double frequency offers flea market enthusiasts two distinct opportunities to rummage through the treasures offered by local exhibitors.
The spring edition, in April, benefits from the rebirth of nature and longer days. Exhibitors, invigorated by the first rays of sunshine, enthusiastically unpack their winter stocks. Visitors stroll between the stalls in a light and relaxed atmosphere, enjoying the return of fine weather. The items offered often reflect the major spring cleanings: emptied wardrobes, sorted cellars and attics, replaced furniture. The November edition has a more indoor feel: shorter days invite the search for items to decorate and warm up interiors. Trinkets, paintings, lamps, textiles, and display items are particularly sought after at this time of year. The atmosphere, more subdued, is no less friendly.
Aix-Villemaur-Pâlis is a commune formed from the merger of three villages — Aix-en-Othe, Villemaur-sur-Vanne, and Pâlis — each of which has retained its identity and heritage. The church of Villemaur-sur-Vanne, with its 16th-century carved wooden rood screen, is a jewel of Flamboyant Gothic art. The surrounding forests of the Pays d'Othe are home to remarkable flora and fauna. In this rural and historical context, the local flea market plays an essential role in animating the territory and maintaining social ties among residents.
The exhibitors at the Brocante d'Aix-Villemaur-Pâlis offer a reflection of the houses and farms of the Pays d'Othe: country furniture, peasant chairs, Norman wardrobes, antique tableware, cookware, agricultural and artisanal tools, books, old postcards, trinkets, old toys, and vintage clothing. Lovers of authentic and patinated pieces will find items impossible to find in urban markets. Prices are generally affordable, especially from private individuals who are primarily looking to get rid of bulky items.
Aix-Villemaur-Pâlis is located about 25 km south of Troyes, accessible via the D671. The village of Villemaur-sur-Vanne is the administrative center of the commune. Parking is available near the flea market venue. Catering and refreshments are provided by local volunteers for both annual editions.
