Every year in May, the firefighters of Illiers-Combray organize their big bric à brac on Avenue Charles Brune. This popular and friendly event is a much-anticipated meeting for residents and bargain hunting enthusiasts from all over the Dunois canton. The profits from this event contribute to the financing of the activities and equipment of the local firefighters' section.
The event starts early: pitches are open from 7 a.m. and the sale continues until 6 p.m., offering a full day of bargain hunting. From the early hours, seasoned bargain hunters flock to find the best deals before the crowds. Everyday items, antique furniture, books, tools, toys, crockery, and curiosities of all kinds fill the tables throughout the day.
Individuals wishing to exhibit can book their pitch in advance by contacting the organizers at 06 33 58 76 44. The rental fee is €2.50 per linear meter, with a minimum of 3 meters. It is also possible to register on the day. Simple and accessible organization that allows everyone to participate.
Illiers-Combray is a small town in the Eure-et-Loir (28) region, famous worldwide for having inspired Marcel Proust's "Combray" in "In Search of Lost Time". The house of Aunt Léonie, a Proustian museum, is preserved there and attracts many visitors each year. This town, steeped in literary memory, is also animated by associative and civic life, of which the firefighters' bric à brac is one of the highlights.
