Major flea market and pretzel festival in the center of Diemeringen, heart of Alsace Bossue - May 8, 2026
The Bretzelfescht Flea Market is one of the most original events in Alsace Bossue. Organized each year on May 8 in Diemeringen, it combines a major flea market and a thematic festival dedicated to the pretzel, this emblematic Alsatian specialty. All day long, about 80 exhibitors unpack their treasures on the Grand Rue and around the cultural center: old furniture, traditional dishes, trinkets, clothing, toys, books, vinyl records, old tools and curiosities of all kinds. Bargain hunters come from all over Alsace Bossue, from the Pays de Sarre-Union, from Lorraine Saulnois and even from the nearby German Palatinate, sometimes crossing the few kilometers that separate Diemeringen from the border to enjoy this friendly day.
The originality of the Bretzelfescht lies in its festive and gastronomic aspect organized at the cultural and sports center, multipurpose hall of Diemeringen. From 3 PM to 8 PM, a tea dance brings together music and dance enthusiasts in a typically Alsatian atmosphere. On the catering side, visitors can enjoy grilled food, pretzel burgers (an original specialty), and a whole range of sweet and savory preparations based on pretzels: plain pretzels, sweet pretzels, filled pretzels, pretzel tart. A playful way to discover or rediscover this salted pastry with its enigmatic name that is called "Bretzel" in Alsatian and that originates from the medieval monasteries of the Rhine. The exhibitor pitch rate remains very accessible: €2 per linear meter with a minimum of 5 meters for vehicles.
Diemeringen is one of the main market towns of Alsace Bossue (Krummes Elsass in Alsatian, Pays de Hanau), this micro-region of the northwest of Bas-Rhin with its hilly and wooded landscapes that contrasts with the Alsatian plain. Located about 60 km northwest of Strasbourg, on the border with Moselle and close to Germany, Alsace Bossue has a unique cultural identity: a mix of Protestant traditions, Rhenish Franconian dialect (different from the Alsatian spoken in the plain), and preserved rural heritage. The village retains half-timbered houses, a Protestant church, and comes alive all year thanks to a dynamic associative fabric. This May 8 day has become over time a marker of local identity, where the pretzel plays the role of a gourmet symbol of a region proud of its roots. Exhibitor registration at 06 68 11 28 48 or by email.
