The big bargain weekend in the heart of the bastide
The Lafrançaise Spring Braderie unfolds its weekend of bargain hunting and festivities at the heart of the medieval bastide, perched on a hillside overlooking the Tarn valley. Two days of bric-à-brac, antique stalls and entertainment between shops, private vendors and associations, under the leadership of the Braderie Committee. A must-attend spring event in Tarn-et-Garonne.
Lafrançaise, a jewel of northern Tarn-et-Garonne, is one of the iconic medieval bastides of Quercy. Its arcaded covered square, its fortified church and its panorama over the Tarn valley make it an exceptional setting for outdoor events. It is in this picture-postcard backdrop that every year — over Easter weekend or in April — the Spring Braderie is held, organised by the Braderie Committee with support from the town hall and local associations.
The event spreads its stalls over two days — Saturday and Sunday — taking over the central square, the village streets and the surroundings of the bastide. The format combines a private flea market, mobile traders' displays, the presence of a few professional antique dealers and stalls run by local associations. A real popular weekend that marks the return of fine weather and outdoor activity in the commune.
Diversity is one of the hallmarks of the braderie: family bric-à-brac, new and second-hand clothing, crockery, toys, books, vinyl records, comics, small furniture, decorative items, family knick-knacks, but also some professional antique pieces (old furniture, lighting, paintings, collectibles). Mobile traders also offer seasonal items, accessories and local produce.
Beyond the bargain hunting, the braderie is the occasion for a real village celebration: music, on-site catering, entertainment for children, tastings of Quercy local produce. The bastide's cafés and restaurants are busy all weekend, and local associations run their own stands to fund their activities. It is one of the major popular gatherings of spring in the Montauban-Moissac area.
The weekend is busy and attendance can be high, especially on Sunday around mid-morning. For serious bargain hunters, Saturday morning remains ideal for finding the best pieces before the Sunday crowds. Parking around the bastide can be tight: plan to arrive early or park slightly downhill. Take the opportunity to discover the Saint-Laurent church and the superb panorama over the Tarn valley.
