Annual autumn street sale in the heart of Maîche, capital of the Pays Horloger
Every autumn, the streets of Maîche come alive to host the town's annual grand street sale. Local shopkeepers, associations, and individuals bring their goods out into the street for a traditional, festive, and friendly street sale, in the spirit of the great street sales of Eastern France. Clothing, books, toys, household items, accessories, and various articles are offered at bargain prices to satisfy bargain hunters and deal seekers.
Maîche is the capital of the Pays Horloger, a high-altitude region nestled between the gorges of the Doubs and Dessoubre, on the border with Switzerland. At an altitude of approximately 777 meters, this town of nearly 4,500 inhabitants boasts an exceptional natural setting, with fir forests, high-altitude meadows, and deep valleys. Its industrial and watchmaking heritage, its Franche-Comté horse breeding, and its panoramas of the Swiss Jura make it a prime destination for visitors.
The Maîche street sale is more than just a commercial event; it's a local gathering place for residents, shopkeepers, and visitors. The festive atmosphere of the town center, with its entertainment, food stalls, and lively terraces, adds to the event's appeal. Visitors come from all over the plateau, the Doubs valley, and even Switzerland to participate in this festive day.
The street sale takes place in the streets of Maîche town center. Entry is free. Shopkeepers and associations wishing to participate can contact the Mairie de Maîche or the Pays Horloger tourist office.
On September 13, 2025, the streets of Maîche were filled with a festive spirit to host the traditional annual street sale. From the morning, town shopkeepers, local associations, and individuals set up their stalls on the sidewalks and pedestrian areas of the center, offering clothing, accessories, books, toys, and discounted items at attractive prices.
The festive and popular atmosphere, characteristic of the Jura street sales, enlivened the day, with many families and groups of friends coming to enjoy the event. On this early autumn day on the plateau at an altitude of 777 meters, residents of Maîche and surrounding villages—as well as visitors from the Territoire de Belfort and even Switzerland—browsed the lively streets in search of bargains.
The next edition is expected in autumn 2026.
