Sunday rendez-vous of the gulf's brocanteurs
Jas des Robert, a vast site in Cogolin just kilometres from Saint-Tropez, has hosted for many years one of the busiest chinage dates in the gulf. Cogolin, historic capital of Provence for rugs and pipes, offers a typical Mediterranean setting between the Maures and the gulf shores.
The Sunday format blends private sellers and professional dealers, guaranteeing diversity. Private : classic jumble – clothes, toys, books, tableware, small appliances. Professional : Provençal antique furniture, polished brocante, decorative pieces, regional tableware, glassware, Vallauris or Biot ceramics, lighting, art objects.
Cogolin, crossed by the Giscle river, sits between beach, mountain and vineyard. Its artisan know-how – rugs, briar pipes, cane walking sticks – occasionally features on specialised stalls. The geography between Maures and Saint-Tropez gulf makes the Jas des Robert visit a pleasant leg of a southern weekend.
The Sunday brocante draws a varied public : gulf residents (Cogolin, Gassin, Grimaud, Sainte-Maxime), Var hunters on a morning trip, tourists staying on the peninsula. In summer, international visitors and more seasoned enthusiasts fill the aisles.
Come early for cool and wide choice. Bring cash. Allow two to three hours. Combine with Cogolin or medieval Grimaud.
