Bandol's bargain hunters' meet-up by the harbour
As spring warms the French Riviera, the seaside town of Bandol opens the flea market season with the long-running Boule Bandolaise sale. The setting is simply enchanting: the event stretches along allée Alfred Vivien next to the boulodrome all the way to the Bendor ferry pier. Between masts, ochre facades and the deep blue Mediterranean, shoppers wander in a relaxed Provençal atmosphere.
Exhibitors are strictly private individuals from Bandol and nearby villages using the day to clear out attics, cellars and cupboards. Expect bric-a-brac, crockery, paperbacks, toys, second-hand clothing, records, small furniture and the occasional pleasant surprise: seaside souvenirs, travel memorabilia, Art Deco trinkets rescued from cap villas.
La Boule Bandolaise, the town's iconic petanque club, runs the event with care. Profits fund the club's sporting activities and the upkeep of the bowling green. Vendors set up from 6am and pack down by 6pm at the latest.
The association's chalet serves coffee, hot chocolate, soft drinks and chocolate bars between two bargains. Seasoned shoppers then linger on a café terrace to enjoy a slice of pissaladière or an ice cream facing the colourful fishing boats.
Bandol boulodrome, allée Alfred Vivien, facing the harbour and the Bendor Island pier. Paid parking around the harbour, Bandol SNCF station a short walk away.
Set-up from 6am, public opening in the morning, closing no later than 6pm.
Private individuals only. Pitches to be booked with La Boule Bandolaise.
Community-run refreshment stand (coffee, drinks, hot chocolate, sweet snacks) at the petanque club chalet.
