The meeting place for antique book lovers

Every Wednesday from 8 AM to 5 PM, the Quai Sébastien Vauban, along the Basse River in the heart of Perpignan, hosts its antique and second-hand book market. This weekly event, known as Quai des bouquinistes, brings together several specialized booksellers and independent book dealers who set up their stalls in the shade of the trees, facing the flowering banks and colorful facades of the old city center. Inspired by the famous Parisian bouquinistes, this market has become one of the most charming cultural events in the Catalan city.

A treasure trove of books for all tastes

The stalls offer an eclectic and carefully selected range: first editions and antique books, history, art and civilization works, Franco-Belgian comics, novels, essays, children's books, Catalan regional books and books about Roussillon, old papers, antique postcards, posters, period magazines, and sometimes even manuscripts or engravings. Prices vary widely, from pocket books for a few euros to rare and signed editions for seasoned collectors. Each bookseller has their specialty, and you can spend hours browsing through the bins in search of a hidden gem or forgotten title.

Along the Basse River, in the historic heart

The Quai Vauban is one of the most beautiful spots in Perpignan's historic center. Bordered by the Basse River and its flowering bridges, it runs alongside old Perpignan towards the Place de la Loge and Le Castillet. After visiting the book market, you can extend your stroll by discovering the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Cathedral, the Palace of the Kings of Majorca, or the Saint-Jacques district. The market sometimes extends to Place Jean Jaurès and Place François Arago on busier days.
