Traditional May 1st car boot sale on the Biot sports plateau, village of glassblowers
The Biot May 1st Car Boot Sale is held on the Saint-Philippe district sports plateau. This medieval village, world-renowned for its glassmaking and artisan crafts, hosts a popular car boot sale every May 1st public holiday. Private sellers offer clothes, toys, books, tableware, and various items in a festive village atmosphere, between the sea and the hills of the Antibes hinterland.
Biot is a medieval village perched between Antibes and Valbonne, world-renowned for its glassmaking tradition. Every May 1st, the Saint-Philippe district sports plateau hosts a large car boot sale that brings together the inhabitants of Biot and neighboring towns for a day of festive treasure hunting.
The tradition of blown glass in Biot dates back to the 1950s, with the creation of the Verrerie de Biot by Eloi Monod. Today, the village is home to numerous glassblowers', potters', and artists' workshops. The Musée national Fernand Léger, below the village, and the art galleries in the historic center make Biot a major cultural destination on the Côte d'Azur.
The May 1st car boot sale is part of the tradition of public holiday events. Families come to hunt for treasures in a festive atmosphere, children enjoy the green spaces of the sports plateau, and the refreshment stand offers food and drinks. Lily of the valley, a must-have for May 1st, mingles with second-hand items on the sellers' stalls. A moment of village conviviality not to be missed.
