Spring flower market combined with a car boot sale, on Barran village square, a village with spiral stair towers
Each spring, the village square of Barran comes alive with a dual event: the Flower Market and the Car Boot Sale. Organized by the association Autour de la Vie Scolaire, this event brings together nursery owners, horticulturists, and flea market exhibitors in an exceptional heritage Gascon bastide setting.
Barran is a village of 800 inhabitants located 15 km west of Auch. Its architectural peculiarity is the famous helical bell tower (known as 'clocher tors') of the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church, one of the few in France. This bastide, founded in the 13th century, also retains its fortified gate, its half-timbered houses, and its central arcaded square. The village is listed among the remarkable sites of Gascony and attracts many heritage enthusiasts every year.
The dual programming of the Flower Market and the Car Boot Sale attracts a diverse audience. Gardening enthusiasts come to find plants, seedlings, flowers, and shrubs from local nursery owners, while bargain hunters sift through the flea market stalls in search of furniture, tableware, old garden tools, books, and trinkets. The association Autour de la Vie Scolaire donates the profits to fund the commune's school activities.
April is the ideal month for this type of event: the gardens of the Gers are in full bloom, and the surrounding hills offer a spectacle of greenery and colors. The Barran flower market allows you to create your garden at a lower cost, while the car boot sale is full of decorative items for the outdoors—old pots, vintage garden tools, wrought iron garden furniture.
