Professional autumn flea market on the La Chaise-Dieu train station esplanade in October
Every second Sunday in October, the La Chaise-Dieu train station esplanade hosts the Autumn Flea Market organized by Collector 63. From 7 am to 5 pm, flea market professionals and collectors set up in this perched medieval village for one last big fair before winter, just a stone's throw from the Benedictine abbey and amidst the vibrant colors of the Auvergne autumn.
La Chaise-Dieu is one of the few villages in Haute-Loire to host several flea markets throughout the year. After those on Whit Monday and in the summer, Collector 63 organizes the Autumn Flea Market on the train station esplanade in the heart of autumn. This end-of-season event attracts bargain hunters who enjoy the autumn colors on the Livradois plateau for one last great getaway before the winter gloom.
Unlike the Whit Monday and summer editions which take over the town center, the Autumn Flea Market is held on the train station esplanade. This more open and easily accessible area allows exhibitors and their equipment to be accommodated in good conditions. The La Chaise-Dieu train station esplanade, the terminus of the old railway line, offers a clear space ideal for setting up professional stands that often require more room to display furniture and bulky items.
The Autumn Flea Market is a predominantly professional event, organized by Collector 63, which carefully selects its exhibitors. You will find flea market professionals, antique dealers, and specialized collectors offering quality items: antique and vintage furniture, period lighting, tableware and table art, paintings and prints, silverware, glassware and ceramics, antique watches and jewelry, old books and documents.
La Chaise-Dieu in autumn is particularly beautiful. The forests of the Livradois plateau don their ochre, red, and gold attire, and the medieval village takes on soft hues in the low October light. Bargain hunting on the train station esplanade while enjoying the fresh air and seasonal colors is a unique sensory experience. After shopping, a visit to the abbey with its 16th-century Flemish tapestries or a walk through the medieval streets will nicely complete the day.
Some editions feature the participation of the Club des Vieux Tacots Casadéens, which exhibits its vintage vehicles on site. This presence enriches the event with a mechanical and nostalgic dimension appreciated by lovers of beautiful bodywork and old mechanics. The combination of the flea market and vintage cars creates a particularly delightful retro market atmosphere.
