The great summer brocante of the Ault seaside resort
The commune of Ault, perched on the last chalk cliffs of the Picard Coast just before the Somme estuary, organizes each summer one of the most anticipated flea markets of the Somme coast. The mid-August one, deployed in the Saint-Valéry, Paris and Calais streets, transforms the city center into a vast walking route.
Ault stands out from other Channel resorts for its authentically Picard character and exceptional geographical setting. The commune occupies the last chalk promontory before the Somme pours into the bay.
Classic flea market inventory and many patinated or seaside-inspired pieces that appeal to coastal decor lovers: frames, antique mirrors, earthenware, glassware, driftwood or old leather objects.
Ault is a commune of about 1,700 inhabitants, a former fishing village that became a modest but sought-after seaside resort in the 19th century. It is also notorious for its coastal retreat, losing several centimeters of cliff each year.
Combine bargain hunting with a cliff walk, a beach break, a visit to Bois de Cise hamlet or a trip to Le Tréport and Mers-les-Bains.
Ault is reached from Amiens (75 km) or Abbeville (35 km). Parking difficult downtown on brocante days: prefer seafront parking. Nearest station: Le Tréport–Mers.
Saint-Valéry, Paris and Calais streets, downtown Ault.
