The festivities committee jumble sale on the Auffreville-Brasseuil football pitch
Auffreville-Brasseuil is one of those small rural communes of north-western Yvelines that do not appear on the tourist map but which nevertheless maintain a real community dynamism. With around 860 inhabitants, the village hosts its annual jumble sale as one of the events that animate its collective life.
The event is held on the communal football pitch, a vast grassy space that comfortably accommodates around 60 exhibitors. This intermediate size is ideal: large enough to offer diversity, modest enough to retain the family and laid-back atmosphere of village sales.
The "foire à tout" is a typically Norman term that has spread to the north-western Paris region. Unlike a car boot sale strictly reserved for individuals, the foire à tout mixes professionals and private sellers freely. You can find absolutely everything: antique furniture, crockery, clothing, toys, books, records, trinkets, tools, small appliances, garden items and curiosities of all kinds.
The Auffreville-Brasseuil festivities committee is the main driving force behind this event. Made up of passionate volunteers, they handle practical organisation: marking out the pitch, welcoming exhibitors, managing refreshments and security.
Located along the Mauldre river, close to Mantes-la-Jolie, Auffreville-Brasseuil is one of those small Yvelines villages that have preserved their rural character despite the proximity of the Mantes agglomeration.
