May 16 and 17, 2026 in Deux-Sèvres: where to bargain hunt, where to go

From the Javarzay flea market in Chef-Boutonne to the Loup'arts garage sale in Saint-Loup-Lamairé, our bargain-hunting programme for the weekend of May 16-17, 2026 in Deux-Sèvres.

The weekend of May 16-17, 2026 looks like a treasure map for bargain hunters in Deux-Sèvres. More than 10 events are documented over two days. The département alternates major seasonal markets and village garage sales.

What's the atmosphere? May in Poitou means the first proper warm days. The Mellois bocage, the Marais poitevin and the Thouars hills welcome stallholders in the open air. For lovers of antiques? Head to Sauzé-Vaussais or Thouars. For solidarity-driven bargain hunters? La Crèche and Plaine-d'Argenson lead the way.

9-stop programme, sorted chronologically, from Saturday May 16 to Sunday May 17.

Saturday May 16 — opening of the weekend

Vide-Grenier des Copains de Magé in Louzy — hamlet vibe

Heading north of the département, near Thouars. The Copains de Magé garage sale sets up in rue de Magé, a hamlet of the Louzy commune. Stallholders unpack from 7 am.

Unbeatable rate? 1 € per linear meter with a 5 meter minimum. At this price, you mostly find private sellers who really empty their attics. The village vibe attracts bargain hunters and families. See the page.

Sunday May 17 — the big bargain-hunting day

Brocante de Javarzay in Chef-Boutonne — 300 stalls at the foot of the château

The flagship event of Deux-Sèvres. The Javarzay flea market takes place every Sunday from April to June. Aim for avenue des Fils Fouquaud, at the foot of the Château de Javarzay. More than 40 editions to its name.

Why go? 300 private and professional stallholders, opening from 6 am to 6 pm, free entry. The reputation goes far beyond the département. It is one of the largest regular markets in the south of Deux-Sèvres for those after antique furniture. See the page.

Mauzé-sur-le-Mignon monthly flea market — the brocanteurs' den

Mauzé-sur-le-Mignon, on the edge of the Marais poitevin, is a must for seasoned bargain hunters. The monthly flea market takes over Place des Halles and the Grand-Rue every third Sunday of the month.

How many stalls? About 30 professionals organised in an association. Antique furniture, vintage, decoration and collector pieces make up the bulk. A serious level for those after the signed piece. See the page.

Vide-Grenier des Loup'arts in Saint-Loup-Lamairé — bargain hunting in a Cité de Caractère

Outstanding setting for this garage sale. Saint-Loup-Lamairé holds the Petite Cité de Caractère label. Medieval lanes, half-timbered houses from the 15th and 16th centuries, and a Renaissance château make up the décor.

How many stalls? About 80, organised by the cultural association Les Loup'arts. Stand rate at 2 € per linear meter. You hunt for trinkets and curiosities between two historic façades. See the page.

Vide-Grenier de l'Éveil Foot Le Tallud — 120 stalls near Parthenay

Heading to the Gâtine area. The Éveil Foot garage sale sets up at the Vernière site in Le Tallud. The local football club runs the organisation.

What figures? About 120 stalls, over 1,000 linear meters of display, one of the largest garage sales in the Parthenay area. Exhibitor rate at 2 € per meter. Snack bar, food and on-site parking. See the page.

Brocante Vide-Greniers in Clussais-la-Pommeraie — Mellois bocage spirit

Small village in the south of Deux-Sèvres. Clussais-la-Pommeraie counts 570 inhabitants, perched at 147 meters in the Mellois bocage. The brocante garage sale gathers around 95 stalls.

Rustic furniture, crockery, trinkets and curiosities make up the offer. Rural atmosphere, soft prices. For lovers of small market towns where you take your time. Budget 2 to 8 € for most items. See the page.

Vide-Grenier de l'ESAFP in Aiffres — 80 stalls at the gates of Niort

Niort suburbs. The ESAFP garage sale (Entente Sportive Aiffres Football Prahecq) takes place on chemin de la Vieille Chèvre. The local club organises it.

How many stalls? About 80, private only, family vibe. Crockery, toys, clothes, books and small furniture. A good option for bargain hunters based around Niort who don't want to drive 50 km. See the page.

Marché d'Artisans, Créateurs et Vide-Grenier APE Wilson — the mixed format

In Saint-Maixent-l'École, the parents' association of the Wilson school combines two formats. The Artisan, Maker and Garage Sale Market mixes local creator stands with a private garage sale.

The event takes place at the Allées vertes and Denfert hall. Stand rate at 3 € per table. You support the school while seeing local craftsmanship. See the page.

Vide-Grenier des Restos du Cœur in La Crèche — bargain hunting for a cause

Engaged format. The Restos du Cœur garage sale in La Crèche donates all proceeds to the Deux-Sèvres branch. Crockery, clothes, toys, books and various objects fill the stands.

For those who want to bargain hunt usefully, this is an ideal option this May 17. A sister event takes place in Plaine-d'Argenson the same day, also for the Restos du Cœur. See the page.

Worth noting too

For bargain hunters willing to go further:

  • Vide-Grenier des Restos du Cœur in Plaine-d'Argenson (May 17) — another solidarity branch of the Deux-Sèvres food aid network.
  • Monthly Flea Market at the Chapelle Jeanne d'Arc in Thouars — every first Saturday of the month from February to November, in the historic chapel on rue du Jeu de Paume.
  • Le Grenier de Sauzé in Sauzé-Vaussais — permanent 1,600 sqm flea market open Tuesday to Saturday and Sunday afternoon, perfect as a complement.

Practical tips for this weekend

How do you make the most of these two days in Deux-Sèvres? 3 rules tested by local bargain hunters.

Pick one area per day. May 16 stays focused on the north of the département (Louzy, Thouars). On May 17, switch as you wish. South Deux-Sèvres for Chef-Boutonne and Clussais. Marais poitevin for Mauzé. Gâtine for Le Tallud. Niort area for Aiffres and La Crèche.

Start early. 7 am means the big crowd at Javarzay. Pros are already there at 6 am. For village garage sales, 9 am stays acceptable.

Bring cash and sturdy bags. Many small village stallholders don't take cards. Budget 5-10 € for a decent object, more for antique furniture in Mauzé or Chef-Boutonne.

To sum up

What stands out about this May 16-17 weekend in Deux-Sèvres? 9 structuring events, around 800 cumulative stalls over 2 days, very varied settings. Foot of Javarzay château, medieval lanes of Saint-Loup-Lamairé, Mauzé squares, Saint-Maixent halls: variety wins.
