From Barcarès to Belcastel via Pézenas, eleven hunting grounds for Ascension weekend: antique fair on a beached liner, Millau coin fair, 300 stalls at Alénya.
From the Catalan coast to the Pyrenean foothills, from the Gard Camargue to the Lot Quercy, Occitania serves an exceptionally dense range of bargain hunting for this Ascension long weekend. Eleven rendez-vous stand out from the 251 active flea markets: three professional antique fairs, two specialised collectors' fairs, the great urban spring sale in Montpellier and a handful of yard sales rooted in heritage settings. Our pick this week: the Antique Fair at Le Barcarès, which turns the legendary Lydia liner beached on the sands into a venue for forty exhibitors over four days. Probably the most singular setting of the entire long weekend in France.
Antique Fair at Le Barcarès, aboard the Lydia liner (Pyrénées-Orientales)
From Thursday May 14 to Sunday May 17, the Antique Fair of Le Barcarès takes over the Lydia liner, beached on the sands since 1967 and now an emblem of the Catalan coast. Run each spring by antique dealer Bernard Rouflay, this four-day fair brings together more than forty dealers from across France. Period furniture, designer lamps, paintings and antiquarian books are displayed in the corridors of a ship that has not carried passengers in nearly sixty years. You hunt between deck and gangways with a Mediterranean view. Best for lovers of fine pieces and for the sheer curiosity of the venue.
Brocante Passion Fort Saint-André, under medieval ramparts (Gard)
Saturday May 16 and Sunday May 17, the Brocante Passion at Fort Saint-André in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon gathers up to 85 professional dealers along the fort's walls, facing Avignon and the Palais des Papes. First edition of the 2026 season, the other falls in October. Pottery, ceramics, furniture, silverware, antique toys, paintings and curiosities: the selection is intentionally high-end, with exhibitors admitted on business registration. One of the most photogenic antique fairs in the region, to pair with a stroll through old Villeneuve.
Montpellier Spring Grand Bazaar: 300 stalls in the Écusson (Hérault)
From Wednesday May 13 to Saturday May 16, the Spring Grand Bazaar turns Montpellier's historic Écusson pedestrian streets into a vast open-air sale. Some 300 stalls take over the shopping core: mostly local shopkeepers clearing seasonal stock, but flea market dealers and antique sellers based in the centre also take part. Run twice a year by the Hérault Chamber of Commerce and the City, the event draws tens of thousands of visitors each edition. More of a textile clearance than antique hunting, but bargain hunters still find vintage, books and curiosities between the stalls.
Pézenas Grand Spread: 200 dealers along a kilometre of road (Hérault)
Sunday May 17, the Pézenas Antique Fair, known as the Grand Déballage, deploys over 200 professional dealers along nearly a kilometre of national road 113. Run by ABAP (the Pézenas Antique Dealers Association), it is one of the largest professional dealer gatherings in southern France. Furniture, antique linen, jewellery, crockery, paintings, African art and objets d'art: broad offer, professional quality, often rare pieces. Pézenas, former capital of the Estates of Languedoc, remains a national rendez-vous for seasoned collectors.
Millau Collectors Fair: numismatics in Aveyron
Sunday May 17, the Aveyron Numismatic Club hosts its Collectors Fair at the Parc de la Victoire town hall. Since 2007, around thirty exhibitors from southern France gather to buy, sell and trade old and modern coins, banknotes, medals and collectible pieces. A specialised event, ideal for those hunting a particular item or wanting a family collection appraised. Studious atmosphere, audience of connoisseurs. Pair with a visit to the viaducts and the Tarn gorges.
Lannemezan Minerals, Fossils and Jewellery Fair (Hautes-Pyrénées)
Saturday May 16 and Sunday May 17, the village hall on rue Thiers in Lannemezan hosts the Minerals, Fossils and Jewellery Fair. Organised by Hexagone Minéral for its third edition, it gathers professional and amateur exhibitors showing mineral specimens from around the world, fossils, and jewellery crafted from natural stones. One of the rare specialised events of this kind in the Pyrenean foothills, ideal for those interested in earth sciences or lithotherapy. Reasonable pricing, educational displays.
Belcastel flea market, an Aveyron medieval jewel
Sunday May 17, the Belcastel Flea Market and Yard Sale takes over this village classed among the Most Beautiful Villages of France. The event unfolds along the banks of the Aveyron river, in the cobbled lanes and onto the campsite grounds, beneath the 11th-century fortress restored by architect Fernand Pouillon. Private sellers and local dealers offer rustic furniture, knick-knacks, crockery and curiosities. Probably the prettiest hunting backdrop in the whole regional selection, to combine with a visit to the castle, open to the public.
Solomiac Ascension yard sale and garden sale (Gers)
Saturday May 16, the Solomiac Rural Foyer hosts its Ascension Yard Sale and Garden Sale on the Place de la Halle. The hybrid format blends traditional hunting (everyday items, knick-knacks, crockery) with a garden market (plants, tools, outdoor furniture), in this medieval bastide of the Gers Lomagne. One of the rare yard sales in our selection to bear the name of the Ascension explicitly, sign of an established village tradition. Arcaded bastide, old covered market, central square: a fine spring backdrop. Perfect for combining bargain hunting with seasonal plant shopping.
Montdragon Fair: a full rural yard sale (Tarn)
Sunday May 17, the Montdragon Fair has for more than thirty years combined a 100-plus stall yard sale, an artisanal local-produce fair, and an exhibition of vintage tractors, collector cars and stationary engines. Run by the MJC of Montdragon, it is the archetypal big rural Tarn day out: hunting, mechanical demonstrations, lunch under the hangar and village fête atmosphere. Free entry, on-site catering. A full, photogenic format for fans of retro-mobile and local hunting.
Lions Club yard sale at Alénya, 300 charitable pitches (Pyrénées-Orientales)
Sunday May 17, the Saint-Cyprien Doyen Lions Club hosts its big charitable yard sale at the Ecoiffier park in Alénya. Over 300 pitches spread through the park and town centre for a day of hunting whose proceeds go entirely to the Lions Club's social work. One of the largest events on the Roussillon plain, with a very local family audience and easy parking. Best for those wanting to combine a big hunting day with a charitable cause. For bargain hunters from the coast, this is the Sunday option.
Verniolle yard sale, at the Château de Fiches (Ariège)
Sunday May 17, the Verniolle Yard Sale takes over the park of the Château de Fiches, a few kilometres from Pamiers. One of the rare yard sales in our Occitania selection to be held on a private heritage site, the castle and its park forming a green setting. Private sellers from the Bas-Ariège offer furniture, crockery, clothes and bric-a-brac in a family-friendly atmosphere. Human-scale format, the castle angle sets it well apart from the usual hall-based yard sales. Pair with a stroll at the foot of the first Pyrenean foothills.
