From the Légué harbour to the ramparts of Saint-Père, ten Breton picks for the Ascension long weekend: marine flea market in Cap-Coz, 800 stalls in Bourgbarré, antique dealers in Locronan.
With its four departments and 2,700 km of coastline, Brittany approaches the Ascension long weekend with a peculiarity found nowhere else: hunting here meets the sea at every turn. Around ten rendez-vous stand out this weekend, from large professional flea markets to village yard sales, plus two distinctively maritime gems. Our pick of the week: the Cap-Coz Marine Flea Market in Fouesnant, a one-of-a-kind seaside event where you hunt nautical objects, ship furniture and marine bric-a-brac at the water's edge. And for antique lovers, two essential stops: Locronan and its classed village, and the Légué harbour in Plérin with its forty professional antique dealers.
Cap-Coz Marine Flea Market in Fouesnant: Finistère's seaside hunt
Throughout May, the Fouesnant-les Glénan Boaters' Association hosts its Marine Flea Market at the old slipway of Cap-Coz. This nautical flea market has no equivalent in the region: on the cobblestones of the slipway, facing the sea, sellers and buyers swap nautical items, ship furniture, navigation equipment, ropes, pulleys, antique charts and boating souvenirs. The generous opening hours (9 am-7 pm) let you take your time, and the Cap-Coz setting — one of the prettiest beaches in the commune, facing the Glénan archipelago — turns hunting into a proper outing. Unbeatable for anyone after a cabin lamp, an antique compass or simply the southern Finistère seaside atmosphere.
Dômes d'Isé Yard Sale in Bourgbarré: 400 to 800 stalls south of Rennes
Sunday May 17, the Dômes d'Isé Yard Sale is quite simply the largest hunting rendez-vous of the weekend in Ille-et-Vilaine. Between 400 and 800 private and professional sellers fill the huge covered surface of the Dômes d'Isé, twenty minutes south of Rennes. The size of the venue lets you hunt comfortably, sheltered from the weather, making it one of the only Breton events guaranteed regardless of the forecast. Crockery, furniture, clothes, toys, books, vinyl records, bric-a-brac and curiosities spread over entire aisles. Also one of the best-known yard sales of the Rennes area, both for its scale and its consistency (every May for several years). Plan a full morning at minimum.
Saint-Père-Marc-en-Poulet Fort Yard Sale: hunting inside a military fortress
Sunday May 17, the Yard Sale at the Fort of Saint-Père plays the unexpected-setting card: you hunt here inside the walls of a 19th-century military fort, a few kilometres south of Saint-Malo. Organised by the SIVU Animation à la Vie Sociale, this annual event brings together around 450 sellers between the ramparts and the inner alleys, in a heritage setting that radically changes from the usual village squares. The fort itself can be visited, allowing you to combine hunting and historical discovery. Mostly private sellers, but the event also draws a few professionals and many bargain hunters from the Emerald Coast. Perfect if you happen to be between Saint-Malo, Cancale and Dinard.
Pipriac Weekly Flea Market: 300 stalls every Sunday
Sunday May 17, the Pipriac Weekly Flea Market holds its rank as one of the largest Sunday rendez-vous in Brittany. Nearly 300 professional and private sellers fill the rue des Dolmens and surrounding streets, every Sunday from March to June. Antique furniture, crockery, bric-a-brac, tools, vintage clothing and collectibles: the depth of the offer is the number-one argument, and people sometimes come from the other end of the department to chase a specific piece. The weekly format makes it a marker for regulars, who know the good stands and rotations. Pipriac sits 40 minutes southwest of Rennes, halfway to Redon, in a less touristy but very active flea-market part of the department.
Locronan Antique and Flea Fair: hunting in a classed village
Starting Friday May 15, the Locronan Antique and Flea Fair opens its monthly season in the cobblestone alleys of the village. Locronan, classed among the most beautiful villages in France, has barely changed since the 17th century: granite façades, Saint-Ronan church, the central square form a film-set backdrop often used for period shoots. Around fifty professional dealers display Breton furniture, Quimper faience, antique objects, bric-a-brac and collectors' pieces on the church square, in a hushed atmosphere. One of the most photogenic fairs in Finistère, to combine with a village visit and a buttered crêpe in one of the many crêperies. Best in late morning for the market and the atmosphere.
Locmaria Antique Fair in Quimper: 50 dealers by the Odet river
Starting Sunday May 17, the Locmaria Antique Fair resumes its monthly rhythm in Quimper. Organised by Philippe Kergonna every second Sunday, from April to November, it gathers around fifty professional dealers on the allée de Locmaria, by the Odet river. The setting is one of the loveliest in town: century-old plane trees, the river, a view of Saint-Corentin cathedral spire. The offer is firmly tilted towards antiques and old furniture, with some bric-a-brac, local faience and collectors' pieces. It's the monthly rendez-vous of seasoned hunters in southern Finistère, more focused than a regular yard sale but more accessible than an antique-dealers' show. Free entry.
Légué Monthly Flea Market in Plérin: 40 professional antique dealers on the harbour
Sunday May 17, the Légué Monthly Flea Market brings together around forty professional antique dealers on the place de la Résistance, in the heart of the Légué harbour at Plérin. Notable specificity: this event is exclusively reserved for professionals, which guarantees the quality and authenticity of the objects on offer. Antique furniture, art objects, collectible bric-a-brac, crockery, lighting and curiosities are displayed from 8 am to 6 pm in a flea-market atmosphere. The Légué harbour setting, a former commercial port between Saint-Brieuc and Plérin, adds a maritime dimension. One of the most serious flea markets in the Côtes-d'Armor for anyone after character furniture or an art piece.
Val-André Flea Markets in Pléneuf: antiques on the Dahouët harbour
Sunday May 17, the Val-André Flea Markets take over the quai des Terre-Neuvas, on the picturesque Dahouët harbour at Pléneuf-Val-André. Around ten professional dealers specialised in antiques, furniture, crockery, decorative objects and militaria display their finds, from 9 am to 7 pm. The Dahouët harbour, a former Newfoundland cod-fishing port, is one of the most authentic on the Penthièvre coast, with its fishing boats and converted warehouses. A small format but a curated offer, in a seaside setting ideal for combining hunting with a stroll along the breakwater or the long beach of Val-André. Free entry.
Erquy Yard Sales: 100 to 200 stalls facing the beach
Sunday May 17, the Erquy Yard Sales bring together between 100 and 200 private and professional sellers on the boulevard de la Mer, facing the central beach. The setting is unbeatable: the bay of Saint-Brieuc on one side, Cap d'Erquy in the background, and the hunt unfolding on the seafront. This spring edition, organised by local associations, attracts weekend hunters and Ascension long-weekend tourists in this Emerald Coast resort known for its beaches and pink sandstone cliffs. The seller rate (€3.50 per linear metre) remains democratic, and entry is free for visitors. To combine with a walk to Cap d'Erquy or a tasting of scallops at the harbour.
Pontivy Swap Meet and Collectors' Show: 200 to 300 stalls
Sunday May 17, the Pontivy Swap Meet and Collectors' Show is the major monthly rendez-vous of inland Morbihan, at the Parc des Expositions - Salle Safire. Between 200 and 300 private and professional sellers offer a unique mix of flea market, yard sale, collectibles fair, old books, stamps, comics, vinyl records, antique toys, militaria and miniatures. The "three in one" formula — yard sale + flea market + thematic show — explains the regional appeal of the event, which draws hunters and collectors from central Brittany and eastern Côtes-d'Armor. Entry €2.50 (free under 10), opening hours 8 am-5 pm.
