Annual two-day house clear-out in Onans, a village in Doubs near L'Isle-sur-le-Doubs
The Onans house clear-out is an unusual and authentic event that transforms this small village in the arrondissement of Montbéliard into a vast treasure hunting space for two days. Unlike traditional car boot sales where exhibitors gather on the same site, Onans residents exhibit from their own homes, garages, and attics, inviting visitors to wander through the village streets in search of hidden treasures.
The unique aspect of the Onans house clear-out is its exclusive reservation for residents of the commune. To participate, each household must submit their prior declaration to the grocery store la Re-Création during its opening hours, before the end of February. This system guarantees the authenticity of the event and the true spirit of French house clear-outs, where each household becomes an exhibitor.
Onans is a typical village in the Doubs countryside, with its stone Comtoise houses, narrow streets, and bell tower. For two days, this picturesque setting is transformed into a treasure hunting ground for flea market enthusiasts who walk the streets, stop in front of houses where clothes are displayed or furniture is piled up, and rummage through boxes filled with everyday treasures: crockery, books, tools, trinkets, clothing, and furniture of all kinds.
Onans House Clear-out on March 28 and 29, 2026, starting at 8 a.m. Open to Onans residents only. Prior declaration to be submitted at the grocery store la Re-Création before the end of February 2026.
