Summer car boot sales on the Gravier esplanade in Fontanges, organized by the Comité des Fêtes
Each summer, the Comité des Fêtes de Fontanges organizes two car boot sales on the Gravier esplanade, in the heart of this small village in the Cantal (15140). One takes place in July, the other in August, from 8 am to 6 pm. Exhibitors, mainly individuals, display their second-hand items on this open and green esplanade: trinkets, crockery, clothes, toys, books, and decorative objects.
Fontanges is a village in the Pays de Salers, nestled in a narrow valley that leads to the spectacular cirque de Fontanges, a natural volcanic formation. The village, dominated by the ruins of its old castle, retains a discreet but charming medieval heritage. Its proximity to Salers, listed among the most beautiful villages in France, and to the Puy Mary, a Grand Site de France, gives Fontanges an ideal location for summer visitors.
The Gravier esplanade is the traditional village gathering place for summer events. This open space, easily accessible, allows exhibitors to set up in good conditions. The nearby parking facilitates visitor access. The Fontanges car boot sales benefit from the summer tourist traffic in the Pays de Salers to attract a varied audience, including locals, second-home owners, and holidaymakers.
The Comité des Fêtes de Fontanges is the driving force behind the village's summer entertainment. By organizing these two annual car boot sales, it helps to bring this small Cantal village to life during the tourist season and to create moments of conviviality among the different groups who visit Fontanges in the summer.
