Paillotes Roaix Flea Markets

A weekly flea market in wine country

In the heart of Haut-Vaucluse, between Vaison-la-Romaine and Orange, the village of Roaix lines its Côtes du Rhône Villages AOC vineyards. The Paillotes park, at 1634 route d'Orange, hosts a recurring Sunday flea market on a vast shaded plot by the road. It has become a popular stop for bargain hunters from the Vaucluse and Drôme.

A laid-back Provençal atmosphere

Here, no pompous fair: the atmosphere is more family picnic than prestigious salon. Private sellers clearing their attic, a few seasonal professionals, holidaymakers attracted by the roadside sign. Goods range from Provençal tableware, household linen, old tools, small rustic furniture, trinkets, clothing, vinyl records and vintage toys.

Roaix, a quiet sentinel of the Côtes du Rhône

The village, clinging to a limestone outcrop, overlooks the Ouvèze valley. Its Romanesque Saint-Pierre church and steep streets recall a Templar past. A visit to the flea market can be extended with wine tastings in nearby cooperatives in Rasteau or Séguret, or an escape towards the Dentelles de Montmirail.
