Commequiers and its medieval castle

About 2,900 inhabitants, part of Pays de Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie area. Known for its listed medieval castle ruins (15th c.), one of Vendée's finest historic sites. Restored by Les Amis du Vieux Château, also hosting other events including the Grand Vide-greniers du château in May.

Rural heritage: Saint-Martin church, lavoir, old farms. Central between Challans (12 km) and Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie (13 km).

Tips

Combine with visit to the medieval castle ruins just a few hundred metres away. Côte de Lumière beaches 20 min away to extend the day.
