Bargain hunting at the foot of a historic windmill in Montfermeil
Perched on the heights of Montfermeil, the Moulin du Sempin is one of the last standing windmills in Île-de-France. Each spring, the Association for the Preservation of Montfermeil's Windmill transforms its surroundings into a lively and friendly second-hand market, attracting both local residents and bargain hunters from across Seine-Saint-Denis.
The flea market takes place at the foot of the windmill, at 136 rue des Moulins, in a leafy setting typical of rural Seine-Saint-Denis. The event welcomes around a hundred private vendors offering furniture, crockery, clothing, books, toys and all kinds of second-hand objects. The atmosphere is described as warm and convivial, with refreshments available on site. The market runs from 7 AM to 6 PM.
The Moulin du Sempin dates from the 17th century and is one of the protected heritage sites of Seine-Saint-Denis. The Preservation Association oversees its upkeep and promotion, and this annual flea market is one of its flagship events for fundraising and raising awareness of this local heritage treasure.
