Monthly car boot sale every 2nd Sunday in the historic market town on the Orge
Every 2nd Sunday of the month, Arpajon becomes a friendly hunting ground with its monthly car boot sale. Around fifty to one hundred private sellers set up in the town centre offering household treasures: childhood toys, books, tableware, trinkets, clothing, vinyl records, tools and everyday objects. This event, embedded in local associative life, has become a cherished ritual for residents of the Arpajonnais area and neighbouring communities in the Orge valley.
Arpajon is one of the oldest market towns in southern Île-de-France. Since the Middle Ages it held market rights and franchises granted by lords and then by the Crown, thanks to its strategic position on the royal road from Paris to Orléans. Its remarkable listed 19th-century market hall, still dominating the town centre, has seen generations of merchants, farmers and craftspeople. The collegiate church of Saint-Clément, with foundations from the 10th century, is another emblem of the town.
