Giant car boot sale at the traditional Saint-Luc fair in the streets of Tinchebray-Bocage, a centuries-old Orne tradition
The Saint-Luc fair is an ancient tradition of Tinchebray, mentioned in historical charters. While livestock fairs have disappeared, Saint-Luc remains an essential gathering for the commune and the entire Vire bocage. Every year, on the third Sunday in October, the town centre of Tinchebray-Bocage transforms into a huge car boot sale that attracts thousands of visitors.
Tinchebray-Bocage is a new commune in Orne, created from the merger of several bocage communes in 2016. This former cutlery and hardware town has a rich industrial history. Located between Flers and Vire, Tinchebray lies at the heart of a verdant rural territory, marked by bocage hedgerows, apple orchards and livestock meadows. The commune has preserved its traditions while developing a dynamic community life.
The Saint-Luc giant car boot sale gathers between 400 and 600 exhibitors each year: individuals, professional antique dealers and merchants. The town centre streets fill with stalls offering furniture, ornaments, crockery, books, toys, clothing, tools and all kinds of objects. A local produce market complements the offering with Norman regional products: cider, cheeses, charcuterie and local specialities.
Saint-Luc is not just about the car boot sale. A funfair sets up in the town for families to enjoy. Entertainment from local shopkeepers offers chances to win prizes. On-site catering and refreshment stalls provide food throughout the day. Entry is free and numerous free car parks are set up on the outskirts of the commune.
