Bargain hunting at the foot of one of France's most beautiful villages
Every last Sunday of August, the Port Esplanade in Auvillar becomes a vast bargain hunters' playground on the banks of the Garonne. At the foot of the famous village classified among Les Plus Beaux Villages de France, this flea market gathers 100 to 200 exhibitors, individuals and professionals, in an exceptional setting blending heritage, river and warm Gascon atmosphere.
The Auvillar flea market and brocante on the Port Esplanade is one of the unmissable summer events of the Garonne valley in Tarn-et-Garonne. Set up on the vast esplanade bordering the river, below the Gascon promontory where Auvillar stands - a village classified among Les Plus Beaux Villages de France since 1994 - it offers a truly unique setting for a day of bargain hunting.
From 5:30 AM, exhibitors start setting up along the route de Valence, welcomed with complimentary coffee. At 7:30 AM, the esplanade opens to the public and the stroll between stalls can begin. Individuals emptying their attics, amateur dealers and a few professionals mingle in the relaxed atmosphere typical of South-Western France's vide-greniers.
Diversity is the main strength of this August event. You'll find everyday objects - tableware, glassware, books, clothing and toys - as well as lovely chined pieces: antique furniture, regional earthenware, old farm tools, advertising items, vinyl records and old postcards from Quercy and Lomagne. Vintage furniture lovers and Gascon curiosities collectors particularly appreciate this flea market where you can take time to chat with sellers.
The other major asset of this brocante is its backdrop. The Port of Auvillar was, from the Middle Ages until the 19th century, one of the main river ports of the middle Garonne. Today, the shaded esplanade offers a magnificent view over the river. Once the bargain hunting is done, climb up to the upper village in just a few minutes to admire the famous round hall with Tuscan columns, the Marché square lined with half-timbered houses, the Saint-Pierre church and the Clock Tower.
The Auvillar flea market and brocante returns on Sunday 23 August 2026 on the Port Esplanade. Over 100 individual and professional exhibitors expected for this day of bargain hunting on the banks of the Garonne, at the foot of the village classified among France's most beautiful.
