Vide-Grenier du Muguet — Thou, Loiret — May 1st
Every May 1st, the village of Thou in Loiret enthusiastically perpetuates the lily of the valley tradition by organizing its annual car boot sale. This popular event, now in its twentieth edition and more, attracts exhibitors and visitors from all over the Gâtinais and southern Loiret for a day of second-hand goods in a friendly atmosphere.
May 1st is a doubly symbolic date in France: Labour Day and the tradition of lily of the valley, this sprig of happiness given to loved ones to bring them luck. In Thou, a discreet but lively village in Loiret, this double symbolism is celebrated through the lily of the valley car boot sale, an event that gives the town its festive day each early May. Exhibitors set up their stalls from the morning, and visitors flock to hunt for treasures under the sign of spring.
Thou is a small commune in Loiret, in the Gâtinais region, halfway between Gien and Briare. Like many rural villages in this region, Thou is a discreet but lively town, whose Festival Committee ensures the local calendar is enlivened by events like this lily of the valley car boot sale. The surrounding nature, the forests and fields of the Gâtinais form an ideal green setting for this spring day.
The Thou lily of the valley car boot sale has had more than twenty successive editions, proof of its deep roots in local life and the loyalty of its participants. Food vendors are not allowed among the exhibitors, which guarantees the flea market and car boot sale nature of the event. A beautiful village tradition that deserves to be known and supported.
