The great summer rendez-vous on Bastille Day at the heart of the Rambouillet forest
The 14 July flea market in Poigny-la-Forêt is a must-attend summer event in Rambouillet Territoires. Organised by the municipality at the Salle Claude Vatran, it brings together around a hundred exhibitors, both private individuals and professionals, from 8am to 6pm. In an authentic village nestled in the Rambouillet forest, bargain hunters and strollers come to enjoy a festive day combining flea market, country refreshments and Bastille Day celebrations.
Every 14 July, the small village of Poigny-la-Forêt swaps its usual woodland tranquility for a particularly lively atmosphere. The municipality, the historic organiser of this event, sets up around a hundred stalls around the Salle Claude Vatran for its annual Bastille Day flea market. From 8am to 6pm, Pugnéens, residents of the Rambouillet Territoires Agglomeration and visitors from across Ile-de-France gather for this day of open-air bargain hunting.
The event venue, the Salle Claude Vatran (also called Salle des Fêtes du Marais), is located at 11 route de Rambouillet. Stalls are set up inside the community hall and mainly outdoors on the street and adjacent car parks, in an atmosphere of village fete. Registrations traditionally open from 10 June for Pugnéens, 23 June for residents of the agglomeration, and as space allows for outsiders. Rates are €6/4m for locals, €12/4m for outsiders and €55/8m for professionals.
14 July attracts a family audience on holiday or long weekend, resulting in high attendance from the morning. Private individuals offer children's and adults' clothing, toys, books, comics, baby equipment, crockery, decorations, bikes, tools and knick-knacks. Professionals bring flea market furniture, old lighting, vinyl records, postcards, old papers and small collections. Seasoned collectors know that rural flea markets can yield great surprises, especially on country objects and provincial small antiques.
With around 1,200 inhabitants, Poigny-la-Forêt is one of those rare Ile-de-France villages that have retained their rural authenticity. Surrounded by the Rambouillet forest massif, the largest in Ile-de-France, the village charms with its old houses, its Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption church (listed historic monument), and its flowered alleys. Hikers appreciate the immediate proximity of the Hollande ponds, the Rochers d'Angennes, and the GR1 which crosses the forest.
14 July in Poigny-la-Forêt is not just about the flea market: the day is part of the wider Bastille Day festivities in the region. Refreshments run by local associations, country catering with grilled food, fries and crepes, children's entertainment: the atmosphere is festive, in a relaxed and friendly Yvelines village spirit.
The village is accessible via the D936 from Rambouillet (about 10 km), then the D107. Rambouillet SNCF station, served by Transilien line N from Paris-Montparnasse, is the nearest rail access point. Admission is free for visitors. Come early: 14 July is one of the busiest days of the year and the best bargains go fast.
