Tallud-Sainte-Gemme: ~550-inhabitant village, Vendée Haut-Bocage, between La Châtaigneraie (10 km) and Pouzauges. Church, scattered farms, rolling landscapes — authentic charm of an area off the mass-tourist track. Annual summer flea one of rare public events. 2025: Sunday 17 August. 2026: expected Sunday 16 August (TBC).

Most varied and preserved Vendée landscapes: granite hills (Vendée's highest point, Mont Mercure at Les Epesses, is here), forests, streams, bocage hedges, typical farms. Slightly cooler than coast. Area marked by late-18th-c. Vendée Wars.

Strategic summer date

Mid-August: peak tourism, locals on holiday can dedicate a morning. Break in the summer, appreciated over bigger Sables fleas.
