The 1st of May flea market in the heart of the Cordais
On the 1st of May, the small village of Noailles in the Tarn Cordais comes alive for its traditional flea market. Organised by the festival committee, this early-season event gathers local private sellers and bargain-hunters from across northern Tarn for a morning of discoveries near Cordes-sur-Ciel. An authentic rendezvous celebrating village conviviality in a remarkable setting, between Tarn causses and Cérou valley.
Noailles is a small village of 205 residents in north-western Tarn, just 6 km south-east of Cordes-sur-Ciel, one of the most beautiful villages in France. A member of the Cordais and Causse Community of Communes, Noailles cultivates the rural art of living of the Tarn slopes and plateaus. The annual flea market, organised each 1st of May by the festival committee, is one of the village's rare large-scale collective events.
Choosing 1st May is not random: public holiday, official start of the fine season, tradition of the lucky sprig of lily-of-the-valley, it's a symbolic date to open the Tarn flea market season. In Noailles, the village centre transforms: sellers unpack their treasures along the village lanes, in front of houses, on the small square.
Bric-a-brac typical of rural Tarn flea markets: old farming tools, crockery and linen, old books, toys, clothes, small furniture, trinkets, vinyl records. Sometimes true gems linked to Cordais rural life: farm objects, wine presses, barrels, hunting tools, early viticulture items. Prices always modest, negotiation cordial.
A visit to the flea market can easily combine with discovering the Tarn Cordais. A few kilometres away, Cordes-sur-Ciel offers a striking medieval journey: hilltop town founded in 1222, cobbled lanes, Gothic houses, many craft workshops and galleries. Surrounding causses, the Grésigne forest, the nearby Gaillac vineyards, and medieval villages such as Monestiés or Virac offer many extensions.
The Noailles flea market returns on Friday 1 May 2026, public holiday, in the village centre. Around thirty Cordais private sellers expected for this traditional event organised by the festival committee. Authentic village atmosphere, refreshments and catering on site. Free entry, just a stone's throw from Cordes-sur-Ciel.
