Annual May car boot sale in the village of Assencières, in Champagne auboise
Every spring, the village of Assencières (10220) in the Aube department organizes its annual car boot sale. This popular event, eagerly awaited by locals and bargain hunters from the surrounding area, transforms the village into a vast second-hand market for a sunny day.
Assencières is located in the Côte des Bar, a sub-region of Champagne renowned for its Pinot Noir vineyards and rolling landscapes. This territory with a strong identity is the cradle of many rural traditions, including the annual car boot sales that have punctuated village life for decades. The Assencières car boot sale is fully in line with this tradition.
Private sellers from all over the region offer a wide range of second-hand items: furniture and antique furniture, crockery and tableware, clothing and accessories, toys and games, books and old documents, tools and garden equipment, vinyl records and cassettes. Flea market enthusiasts often find unusual items reflecting local heritage.
Beyond the commercial aspect, the Assencières car boot sale is above all a village festival. Local volunteers are committed to creating a welcoming and warm atmosphere. A refreshment stand is usually set up to allow visitors and sellers to meet for a drink in a spirit of sharing.
The Assencières car boot sale is held every year in May, outdoors in the village. Admission is free for visitors. Private sellers wishing to rent a pitch are invited to contact the Assencières town hall or the organizing association.
