Car boot sale flea market of July 14th in the village of Fanlac, a village in Périgord Noir
Every July 14th, the village of Fanlac hosts a car boot sale and flea market that sets up around the village hall and in the village streets. Private sellers offer visitors a varied selection of second-hand items: crockery, trinkets, clothes, tools, toys, books, and small furniture, in a typical Périgord Noir popular festival atmosphere.
Fanlac is inseparable from Eugène Le Roy's novel Jacquou le Croquant, the action of which takes place in the village's surroundings. This major work of Périgord literature, adapted several times for cinema and television, has made this corner of the Dordogne known throughout France. The Château de l'Herm, a ruined fortress that inspired the novel, stands a few kilometers from the village in the Barade forest.
Fanlac is a small village perched on the heights between Montignac-Lascaux and Les Eyzies, in the heart of Périgord Noir. The wooded hills of oaks and chestnut trees, the green valleys, and the pale stone farmhouses create a bucolic and preserved landscape. The Domaine du Sablou, a former estate that has become a cultural venue, also hosts events throughout the summer near the village.
The July 14th car boot sale is part of the national holiday festivities in Fanlac. The day of treasure hunting is followed by entertainment and moments of conviviality organized by village volunteers. The atmosphere is family-friendly and warm, reflecting this small commune that perpetuates the traditions of Périgord Noir.
