Every year in May, the village of Montréal-du-Gers hosts an English Book Sale for the benefit of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). This original charity event brings together thousands of second-hand English-language books, offered at modest prices under the medieval arcades of this village classified as one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France.

Thousands of English books at low prices

The sale offers a wide selection of second-hand books in English: novels, crime fiction, science fiction, essays, biographies, children's books, art books, travel guides, and practical manuals. The books come from donations by the English-speaking community in the Gers and the southwest of France. The deliberately low prices make reading accessible to all and maximize the donations to MSF.

For Médecins Sans Frontières

All profits from the sale are donated to Médecins Sans Frontières, the medical humanitarian organization that operates in conflict and disaster zones around the world. Buying a book at the sale is both a pleasure and a contribution to an essential cause. This solidarity aspect gives the event a scope that goes far beyond a simple book market.

Under the arcades of Montréal-du-Gers

The medieval arcades of Montréal-du-Gers, covered stone and wood walkways from the 13th century, offer an exceptional setting for this book sale. The Place de l'Hôtel de Ville and the arcades protect the books from the weather and create an intimate and hushed atmosphere, conducive to literary browsing. The event takes place over two days: Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday from 10 am to 12 pm.
