The Grand Street Sale of Jonzac: three days of great deals in Haute Saintonge

Every early April, the historic center of Jonzac comes alive for three days for the Grand Spring Street Sale and Flea Market. From Friday to Sunday, the town's merchants display their goods on the sidewalks, offering exceptional prices on previous season's collections and end-of-series items, in a festive atmosphere that attracts shoppers from all over Haute Saintonge.

The event takes over the shopping streets of the town center: Place du Marché, Rue de Verdun, and Place du Château, dominated by the imposing medieval fortress from the 12th-15th centuries, which now houses the Town Hall and an interpretation center. Merchants set up their stalls outdoors, creating a Provençal market atmosphere in the heart of Saintonge. On Sunday, a car boot sale complements the offerings, allowing individuals to sell their everyday items alongside professionals.

Jonzac, a spa and medieval town

A sub-prefecture of Charente-Maritime, Jonzac is a spa town renowned for its hot springs that supply the Antilles de Jonzac, an aquatic and wellness center. The town's medieval heritage is remarkable: a fortified castle from the 12th-15th centuries, the Carmes cloister, the Saint-Gervais-et-Saint-Protais church, medieval market halls, and picturesque streets. This rich heritage gives the street sale an incomparable setting.

Entertainment and festivities on Sunday

Sunday is the highlight of the event. In addition to the car boot sale and the street sale, a program of entertainment enlivens the day: a majorette parade through the town center streets, live music in the squares, and food areas at Place du Château and Place du Marché.
