Spring flea market at the foot of the Albères, in the village of whips and riding crops
The Sorède Flea Market is one of those small village gatherings that capture all the charm of Roussillon spring. On May 24, 2026, exhibitors and hunters take over the squares and streets of this Albères village for a day under the sign of conviviality. Locals empty attics and garages, while a few professionals offer antique furniture, Catalan earthenware, peasant tools, vintage tableware and collectibles. The immediate proximity of the mountains and the Vermilion Coast makes it a dream weekend stop.
Nestled in the heart of the Albères massif, the last eastern foothills of the Pyrenees before the Mediterranean, Sorède is a village rich in unique craft heritage. For centuries, whips and riding crops have been made there from the famous hackberry trees that grow in abundance on the surrounding hillsides. This tradition, which still continues today through a few workshops and a museum, gives Sorède a unique identity in the department.
Far from large urban gatherings, the Sorède flea market charms with its intimate atmosphere and local roots. Visitors can find typically Catalan objects, Catalan-language books, Tech valley pottery and ancient tools bearing witness to rural life of yesteryear.
