Hunting in Clemenceau's country
Saint-Vincent-sur-Jard, about 1,300 inhabitants, sits on the Vendée Côte de Lumière between Jard-sur-Mer and Longeville-sur-Mer. World famous for being where Georges Clemenceau retired — his "Bicoque" is now a museum. A peaceful resort and an idyllic setting for a spring flea market.
2026 edition: Saturday 9 May 2026. Brings together private sellers and hunters in the friendly coastal-Vendée atmosphere. Classic coastal-market range: trinkets, beach gear, books, toys, clothes, nautical decor, small furniture.
Georges Clemenceau's house is a must. Here the "Tiger", WWI prime minister, ended his life, gazing out to sea from his seaside garden designed by his friend Claude Monet. The museum visit takes you into the intimacy of a great statesman.
Known for wild beaches and pine forests. Clemenceau beach, Payré point, GR 8 coastal path offer unforgettable walks. Preserved coastline still dominated by dunes and forest, unlike more built-up resorts.
Visit Clemenceau's house, walk the coast, push to Longeville-sur-Mer and Jard-sur-Mer. Les Sables-d'Olonne 25 min drive.
Arrive early; combine with Clemenceau house for a full day; small cash; enjoy beaches after hunting.
