A bastide in the heart of the Tarn-Agout

Founded in the 13th century, Saint-Paul-Cap-de-Joux takes its name from the confluence ("cap de joux", the junction) of the Agout and Dadou rivers. This former bastide, a historic capital of the Vaurais and Castrais regions, preserves a fascinating architectural heritage and a vibrant community spirit. Ideally located between Castres, Lavaur, Puylaurens, and Graulhet, the town attracts both local residents and summer vacationers visiting the Tarn.

A summer flea market in the village center

The Saint-Paul-Cap-de-Joux flea market is a staple of the Tarn-Agout summer calendar. Organized by the local hunting association, it takes over the village center on the first Sunday of August. The stalls stretch for hundreds of meters, giving the village a festive atmosphere and offering visitors a peaceful stroll past traditional brick facades.

The selection, primarily provided by private individuals, is typical of large Tarn flea markets: clothing for adults and children, childcare items, toys, books, comics, vinyl records, tableware, linens, small appliances, tools, trinkets, decor, and small furniture. The summer season and the region's tourist appeal also bring more unique finds: pottery, vintage documents, local earthenware, and regional furniture pieces.

A friendly day in the Vaurais region

The August atmosphere, the warmth of the Tarn, and the hospitality of the organizers make this event much more than just a flea market. Food and drinks are provided on-site by the hunting association. Visitors often extend their morning with a stop at the nearby Gaillac vineyards or a swim in the Agout, making it a quintessential Tarn experience.
