May 1st brocante in Saint-Ouen-sur-Morin, in the Petit Morin valley
Every May 1st, Saint-Ouen-sur-Morin renews one of the oldest French traditions: the spring brocante. Set up on rue de Montapeine, the event enjoys the verdant setting of the Petit Morin valley, a small river winding through the slopes of northern Seine-et-Marne before joining the Marne. In this bucolic setting, stalls stretch along the street and available spaces, offering bargain hunters a pleasant walk through the heart of the village.
Individuals, occasional dealers, and antique lovers share the stalls, offering a well-balanced mix of clothing, toys, books, trinkets, tableware, small furniture, and decorative items. Unlike large urban fairs, this brocante cultivates a family-like and relaxed character: visitors take time to chat with exhibitors, bargain good-naturedly, and leave with lovely finds sometimes sold for just a few euros. The warmth of welcome and diversity of items make it a fixture for local bargain hunters.
Saint-Ouen-sur-Morin is among those discreet and endearing villages dotting the Petit Morin valley, on the edge of Seine-et-Marne and Marne. The landscape alternates woods, meadows, small bridges, and houses of typical Brie architecture. Hiking enthusiasts particularly appreciate this area, which offers many trails along the waterway. The peaceful, preserved village embodies the authentic Brie where associations keep traditional community life alive.
In 2025, Saint-Ouen-sur-Morin held a brocante on July 13, for the benefit of the Les 3A association. This charity edition highlighted the philanthropic dimension these village events often take, with proceeds supporting local causes. In 2026, the event returns to its traditional May 1st date, reclaiming its spring slot perfect for long days of bargain hunting.
Coming to browse in Saint-Ouen-sur-Morin is also an opportunity to enjoy the lovely northern Seine-et-Marne countryside. Visitors can extend their day with a walk in the Petit Morin valley, visit neighboring villages like Saint-Cyr-sur-Morin (home of Pierre Mac Orlan), or reach the first Champagne foothills just a few kilometers to the east. Heritage lovers will also appreciate the small rural churches and old mills of the area.
The brocante takes place on May 1, 2026 on rue de Montapeine, in Saint-Ouen-sur-Morin (77750). Admission is free for visitors. Access by car via secondary roads from La Ferté-sous-Jouarre or Rebais. Parking in the village.
