Large charity flea market organized by the Rotary Club in the historic heart of Montereau-Fault-Yonne
For several years, the Rotary Club of Montereau-Fault-Yonne has organized its great annual flea market in June, on the emblematic Place du Marché au Blé. This event is part of the Rotarian tradition of charitable actions and fundraising for local and international causes. With around 150 exhibitors spread across the square, Place du Colonel Fabien, and adjacent streets, the event takes on considerable scope each year, attracting both Montereau residents and bargain hunters from neighboring departments.
Rotary International is a global organization of service clubs founded in 1905, bringing together more than 1.2 million members worldwide. The Rotary Club of Montereau, like its counterparts, is made up of business leaders and professionals who put their skills and energy at the service of the community. The annual flea market is one of the club's main fundraising actions, with proceeds financing various initiatives: support for local associations, aid to people in need, educational and health actions, contributions to international programs such as the fight against polio.
The choice of the Place du Marché au Blé as the location for the flea market is not insignificant. This square, located in the historic heart of Montereau, has traditionally been the place for markets and commercial exchanges for centuries. Organizing a flea market in this place means reconnecting with its original vocation and bringing to life the merchant spirit that long made the town prosperous. The old facades surrounding the square give the event a special cachet, evoking the great fairs of yesteryear where people came from afar to browse, negotiate, and trade.
With its 150 exhibitors present from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (installation from 5 a.m.), the Rotary Flea Market of Montereau offers a full day of discovery and bargain hunting. The stalls overflow with all kinds of items: antique furniture, dishes, paintings, knick-knacks, vintage clothing, books, second-hand jewelry, old toys, tools, vinyl records, curiosities. The diversity of offerings and the presence of semi-professional dealers and individuals guarantee that everyone will find something they like, from the sharp collector to the simple visitor looking for a pleasant Sunday outing.
Participating in the Rotary Flea Market of Montereau is much more than just a day of bargain hunting: it's contributing to concrete actions that change the lives of many people. The funds collected are used to finance various projects: support for integration, aid to families in need, scholarships for young people, medical equipment, health awareness actions. Since Rotary is also active internationally, part of the proceeds contributes to global humanitarian programs. Bargain hunting for a good cause is an intelligent and pleasant way to give meaning to your purchases.
Montereau-Fault-Yonne, at the confluence of the Seine and Yonne rivers, is a town rich in history and architecture. Its 13th-century Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Loup church, its emblematic bridges, its developed quays, and its lively town center offer visitors many reasons to stroll. The flea market is a wonderful opportunity to discover this city with its little-known heritage, located less than an hour from Paris by train from Gare de Lyon. For gourmets, the region also offers its famous Brie cheeses and Brie specialties.
The Rotary Flea Market of Montereau has become one of the highlights of the calendar for bargain hunters in the southeastern Paris region. Its friendly atmosphere, its scale, its historical setting, and its charitable dimension make it a special event, which flea market enthusiasts put on their calendar every year. A beautiful illustration of what civic engagement and the pleasure of bargain hunting can create together.
