Flea market and traditional fair in cheese country
The Rollot flea market and trade fair is one of the major events of Picardy's Santerre. Set up in the streets of Saint-Nicolas, Prés Madame and Paris, this event combines traditional flea market and trade fair in the lively atmosphere of a town famous for its emblematic cheese. Bargain hunters, itinerant merchants and local producers gather in this southeastern Somme village for a festive day.
Rollot, a small town in southeastern Somme, is mainly known for giving its name to one of the great Picardy cheeses: the rollot, a soft-paste washed-rind cow's milk cheese, close to maroilles but with its own identity. Every year, the village extends this gastronomic tradition by organizing a large flea market combined with a trade fair, which attracts bargain hunters, curious people and lovers of local products to the streets of the village center.
Rollot's particularity is to combine two formats in a single day. On one side, the traditional flea market, with its private and professional exhibitors offering dishware, furniture, books, trinkets, clothes, toys and collectibles. On the other, the trade fair, with its itinerant merchants, local producers, craftspeople and often some entertainment. This combination gives the event particular richness and permanent animation from morning to evening.
The event takes place in three main streets: rue Saint-Nicolas, rue des Prés Madame and rue de Paris. This extensive configuration allows a large number of exhibitors to be accommodated and guarantees visitors a real stroll through the town. Between two flea market stands, you can stop to taste a farmhouse rollot, enjoy a local beer or chat with a Santerre craftsman. The atmosphere, festive and gourmet, mixes village residents and visitors sometimes from far away for the occasion.
Rollot is located on the southeastern edge of the Somme, on the borders of the Oise department, in the Santerre country. The community of about 700 inhabitants remains deeply rooted in Picardy rural tradition: agriculture, dairy farming, cheese production. The annual flea market and fair is one of the great moments of the year for the inhabitants, who gather families and friends, and testifies to the associative and commercial dynamism of this rural town. A gourmet and lively stop for any bargain hunter curious to discover authentic Picardy terroir.
