The weekly flea market of the episcopal city
Every Saturday morning, just steps from Sainte-Cécile Cathedral, the Halle du Castelviel hosts one of the most iconic bargain-hunting gatherings in the Tarn. Around forty professional antique dealers lay out antique furniture, design pieces, paintings, vintage books and toys in an exceptional heritage setting, at the foot of Albi's UNESCO-listed episcopal city.
The Halle du Castelviel, a former covered market on the Place du Foirail, has long been the place where Albi's bargain hunters meet on Saturday mornings. Just minutes from Sainte-Cécile Cathedral, the Berbie Palace and the Toulouse-Lautrec museum, the hall turns into an open-air cabinet of curiosities every weekend, right in the heart of the episcopal city inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage list.
The market brings together around forty professional exhibitors, all from the world of brocante, antiques and vintage. Visitors meet specialists in period furniture, Scandinavian design and Art Deco, as well as dealers in old master paintings, ceramics, silverware, clockmaking and old books. Vintage toys, postcards, vinyl records, antique jewellery and advertising objects also feature heavily.
Under the metal framework of the Halle du Castelviel, stands follow one another amid an eclectic crowd: regulars, collectors, decorators, young couples on the hunt for a statement piece, or tourists visiting Albi. People come to shop but also to chat, ask for advice and learn about a period or style. The atmosphere stays hushed, perfect for real finds and old-school bargaining.
Run in partnership with the City of Albi and driven by loyal dealers, the Castelviel Flea Market is one of the few weekly professional brocantes in the Occitanie region. It pairs naturally with a walk through the Castelviel alleyways and along the banks of the Tarn, making Albi on Saturday morning one of the most enjoyable destinations in south-west France.
