Annual car boot sale in Ouveillan, a village in the Narbonne plain on the canal route
The Ouveillan car boot sale is held every year in this village in the Narbonne plain, located between Narbonne and Béziers on the Canal du Midi route. This summer event brings together private sellers and bargain hunters from the region for a lively day. Free entry, refreshments provided by volunteers.
Ouveillan is a town in the Narbonne plain, located halfway between Narbonne and Béziers, near the Canal de Jonction and the junction between the Canal du Midi and the Canal de la Robine. This village in the Languedoc plain, surrounded by vineyards and market gardens, organizes a popular car boot sale every summer which is one of the highlights of its festive calendar.
The Narbonne plain is a region of agricultural and wine-growing tradition, crossed by numerous canals and waterways that irrigate the vines and crops. Ouveillan benefits from a dynamic geographical location, at the crossroads of the Narbonne-Béziers axis and the roads leading north to Minervois. The municipality has a long agricultural history, and its families of diverse origins — from Languedoc, repatriated from Algeria, and other parts of the Mediterranean — give the village a cultural diversity that is reflected in local community life.
The Ouveillan car boot sale attracts sellers from the town and neighboring villages — Canet, Cuxac-d'Aude, Sallèles-d'Aude, Coursan, Lézignan-Corbières — to offer their second-hand items. The range is wide: all kinds of clothing, furniture and small pieces of furniture, crockery and kitchen utensils, household appliances, toys and books, trinkets and decorative objects, garden tools. The cultural diversity of the municipality is sometimes reflected in items of Mediterranean or exotic origin which give a special character to the market.
Ouveillan is located near the Canal de Jonction, which connects the Canal du Midi to the Canal de la Robine leading to Narbonne. This location on the Languedoc canals makes Ouveillan a popular stop for boaters and cyclists using the greenway along the canals. Some of them stop during the car boot sale, adding a touch of discovery and travel to the event.
Ouveillan volunteers provide lively refreshments throughout the day of the car boot sale, in the festive tradition of the villages in the Languedoc plain. The atmosphere is warm and southern, with lively discussions between the stalls.
Individuals wishing to register can contact the Ouveillan town hall. Entry is free for visitors.
