Annual flea market at the heart of Moret-sur-Loing, an impressionist village on the banks of the Loing
The Moret-sur-Loing Flea Market takes over the Place du Champ de Mars every spring, the beating heart of this delegated commune attached to Moret-Loing-et-Orvanne. In a setting of old houses and medieval gates that inspired the Impressionist painters, private individuals and bargain hunters come together for a day of discoveries and good deals. This annual event, very popular with residents and visitors from all over southern Seine-et-Marne, offers the unique charm of a flea market in one of the most beautiful villages in ÃŽle-de-France.
Moret-sur-Loing, a delegated commune of Moret-Loing-et-Orvanne, is a jewel of southern Seine-et-Marne. This former medieval stronghold, crossed by the Loing, has preserved its remarkable heritage and unique atmosphere which once inspired Alfred Sisley and other Impressionist painters. Each spring, the village comes to life on the occasion of its major annual flea market which takes over Place du Champ de Mars and its surroundings.
Place du Champ de Mars is the natural meeting point for local events in Moret-sur-Loing. Vast, lined with trees and open to the old quarters, it offers exhibitors an ideal space to deploy their tables and stalls. The flea market attracts individuals from all over the region who offer a wide variety of objects: clothing, toys, books, tableware, trinkets, small furniture, vinyl records, tools, childcare equipment, collectibles.
Moret-sur-Loing is no ordinary village. A former royal stronghold, it has retained from its past its two fortified gates (Burgundy gate and Samois gate), its castle, its Gothic church Notre-Dame de Moret and its many old half-timbered houses. It was here that the painter Alfred Sisley spent the last years of his life and painted some of his most famous works. Today, the banks of the Loing and the cobbled alleys still offer viewpoints identical to those that inspired the master of impressionism.
The Moret-sur-Loing flea market is particularly well suited to a family outing. Children have fun finding toys and comics at low prices, adults look for a decorative or practical bargain, enthusiasts of antiques scrutinize the stands in search of the rare piece. Once the browsing is done, the walk can continue along the banks of the Loing, in the alleys of the historic center, or to the nuns' barley sugar factory, a centuries-old local specialty established in Moret since 1638.
For those who come from afar, the Moret-sur-Loing flea market is the ideal opportunity to discover southern Seine-et-Marne: the nearby Fontainebleau forest, the UNESCO-listed royal castle of Fontainebleau, the villages on the banks of the Loing, Grez-sur-Loing also dear to landscape painters, and the hiking trails that crisscross the region.
The flea market takes place on Sunday April 19, 2026 on Place du Champ de Mars in Moret-sur-Loing. Free admission for visitors. Access by Transilien line R (Moret-Veneux-les-Sablons station) or via the A6/N6 from Paris.
