Hunting in a south Vendée village at the gates of the Marais Poitevin
Moreilles is a small south Vendée village between Luçon and the first Marais Poitevin canals. Each year La Roselière hall hosts the village sale — a human-scale event gathering locals and visitors from nearby. 2026 date: Sunday 14 June.
This kind of village sale has real charm: 20-30 sellers, relaxed atmosphere, genuine exchanges with sellers, a chance for great finds at fair prices. Classic village mix: crockery, knick-knacks, clothes, toys, books, vinyl, small furniture, sometimes rural objects (tools, old farm gear, farm decor).
~300 inhabitants. At Vendée's south tip, a few km from Charente-Maritime, under Marais Poitevin influence. Local identity: farming (grain, market-gardening), marsh proximity, remarkable religious heritage with its Cistercian abbey ruins.
Notre-Dame abbey, Cistercian, 12th century. Remains survive within private farmland. The abbey church's massive walls testify to the site's former grandeur — rare heritage in Vendée.
Luçon and its cathedral (10 min), Marais Poitevin (Triaize, Saint-Denis-du-Payré nature reserve), coast at La Tranche-sur-Mer (25 min), Fontenay-le-Comte (35 min).
